Local AI at GEUS
Local AI for confidential subsurface data - the stack we are building at GEUS
GEUS holds decades of subsurface data, and much of it is confidential or proprietary. That rules out sending it to cloud AI services. For a Danish CO2 storage project, we are building the alternative: an on-premises AI stack on a single desk-side NVIDIA DGX Spark. Open-weight LLMs served by vLLM (Gemma 3 27B, Qwen3.6 35B MoE - from 13 to 75 tokens/s depending on model and quantization), an OCR pipeline turning decades of scanned reports into text, ML models for predicting and validating well logs, and benchmarks asking the question that decides everything: when is a local model actually good enough to trust? It is work in heavy progress with plenty of open ends. That is the point: come to challenge it.
Speaker: Nikolai Andrianov, Senior Advisor at GEUS
Format: 15-minute talk, no interruptions, then open discussion over drinks and snacks. Around 20 participants. The discussion is recorded (audio only) for a written summary.
This session is a dissemination activity of the OMGCCS project, funded by INNO-CCUS.
